چکیده

ESPITE extensive studies on spontaneously hypertensive rats, there have been no studies on the cardiac output except a preliminary work by Albrecht et al,4) which reported a decreasing tendency of cardiac output with age. These authors employed the Stewart-Hamilton principle for the measurement of cardiac output. An attempt was made in this study to measure cardiac output in SHR by applying an electromagnetic flowmeter probe at the ascending aorta under anesthesia and artificial respiration. Arterial pressure was recorded simultaneously and total peripheral resistance was calculated. These parameters were compared with those in normotensive control rats and effects of ganglion blockade were also studied.

Cardiac output in conscious and almost unrestrained spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Cardiac output and arterial pressure in the conscious state were measured in spontaneously hypertensive rats and normal control rats with chronically implanted electromagnetic flow probe and arterial indwelling cannula. Cardiac index at rest was greater in hypertensive rats than in controls. However, the mean arterial pressure in probe implanted hypertensive rats was significantly lower than th...

Disparate effects of methyldopa and clonidine on cardiac mass and haemodynamics in rats.

1. Wistar-Kyoto and spontaneously hypertensive rats were given either methyldopa (400 mg day-1 kg-1) or clonidine (0.1 or 0.3 mg day-1 kg-1) for 3 weeks commencing at 20 weeks of age. 2. Both drugs significantly decreased mean arterial pressure in spontaneously hypertensive but not Wistar-Kyoto rats. Heart rate was significantly increased in spontaneously hypertensive rats by methyldopa, wherea...

Overall and regional hemodynamic effects of leukotriene D4 in spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Leukotriene D4, a constituent of slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis, elicits a pressor response followed by hypotensive shock in spontaneously hypertensive rats but not in other rats. Hemodynamic mechanisms underlying this pattern in spontaneously hypertensive rats, pithed and vagotomized to eliminate circulatory reflexes, were studied using radiolabeled microspheres. One minute after leuko...

Low-intensity exercise training decreases cardiac output and hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rats.

The decrease in cardiac sympathetic tone and heart rate after low-intensity exercise training may have hemodynamic consequences in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). The effects of exercise training of low and high intensity on resting blood pressure, cardiac output, and total peripheral resistance were studied in sedentary ( n = 17), low- ( n = 17), and high-intensity exercise-trained ( n ...
